OTIS:
Simple farm kid and perpetually will be, who is relentlessly curious about the world. Fortunate enough to travel around it and experience those moments that have all led to eureka, especially when we least expect it, no matter how big or small the moment is.
I draw. I draw everyday. It’s not representational, of truly anything from my eyes or the eyes of anyone else. Strict Abstract Linearism is the way lines, empty spaces, one tone of color or lack there of make the mind think and glide into the viewers self thought. Its strict because it follows unforgiving rules. Some may argue, art has no rules, but it would be silly to call the David a watercolor painting, the Lilly’s subtraction, or the Eiffel Tower itself a clay rendition. In the vast world a discipline must be met and strictly followed to ensure its originality and purity moving forward.
We live in a complex world, and when left to be broken down to just one or two colors including the background, simple lines, shapes or spaces, we leave it up to our minds to fill in the rest. The art can only be described using two words. Two words reflect what the artist sees or is feeling in that moment of conception. While the viewers view can simply reflect on it in their own way, with their own two words. Don’t need to explain it to anyone else, and we all humans can simply string two words together instantaneously and snapshot it to the artwork in view.
Drawing is intimate, everything about it, is intentional, and it’s meant to be there. Every gap line or space takes the same amount of time to make a mark. it draws you in to the work and leads your eyes down a path of curiosity. One can’t see far, or it makes for blurry birds eye viewpoints. And if one can see this way, many others must as well. This medium is meant to bring you in close to the work, its meant to capture and focus your attention, yet at the same time send it into space on a voyage.
Every work is marked, uniquely coded, and strictly one of one. We are all one of one’s. We are original, all of us.
Art must be original, it must be enjoyed originally, it must be touched originally, and it must be shared in its original being. Whats the point of touching the bottom stone of any great ancient structure without imagining the people that first laid that first stone? Or envisioning the fresco’s drying as they are being painted. The smell of burned stone and saw dust as subtraction reveals its masterpiece. What was happening at the moment or creation- Can only be carried on as original, or else this subtle meaning of wonderment is lost.
Works sell quick but can be reserved on a waiting list.
Or for the lucky few, once a week I draw from the mail in requests- enclosed with two words of description, your colored pencil, and a return address to be given back. These custom works will be given priority to previous collectors or previous original holders. Art is a connection between the works and and beholder. Have a forever connection with an artist and that artist will forever have a connection to you. After all thats what makes us all human. The mailed back works to the staunch beholder will receive original works with the first box left blank- the rarest form of the works.
